Can inflammation cause weight loss?

My brother has been sick with a chronic inflammatory condition, and he's also lost a significant amount of weight. We're concerned. Can inflammation actually lead to weight loss?

I can only share what happened to me, but during a severe flare-up of my gut inflammation, I lost about 5 kgs in a couple of weeks because I just couldn't digest food properly. It was quite scary, so definitely look into it.

Yes, it can. Chronic inflammation, especially in conditions like IBD or rheumatoid arthritis, can completely mess up your appetite and nutrient absorption, leading to rapid weight loss. Don't sit on this; get a proper medical workup immediately.

Yes, inflammation can increase your metabolic rate or cause muscle wasting, leading to unhealthy weight loss. This isn't the good kind of weight loss you get from working out and clean eating, so make sure to get it evaluated by a doctor.

Ho na, chronic inflammation se appetite bilkul khatam ho jati hai and sudden weight loss ho sakta hai. My aunt went through the same thing last year. Please doctor ko dikhao aur apna khayal rakho.

Yes, systemic inflammation can release cytokines that suppress appetite and break down muscle tissue, causing weight loss. Since this can be a symptom of various underlying health issues, consulting a medical professional is the best and safest course of action.

Yes, inflammation can cause weight loss, and it's honestly making me super worried. I have been losing weight without trying and I keep overthinking it. Has anyone else experienced sudden weight loss due to inflammation, and did it stop after treatment?

Look, if you are losing weight rapidly without trying, inflammation or an underlying infection could be the cause. Don't ignore this thinking you are getting slim naturally. Go see a good physician and get your blood tests done.

Honestly, yes. When I had a severe throat and stomach inflammation last semester, I couldn't eat anything for days and lost so much weight. It made me feel super weak, so definitely get it checked out if it's happening to you.
