Can i lift weights during pregnancy?

I used to regularly lift weights before I got pregnant and I really miss my routine. Now that I'm in my second trimester, I'm wondering if it's safe to resume some light weightlifting. My doctor said gentle exercise is fine, but I'm not sure about weights.

Behen, heavy weights should not be lifted during this delicate time. In our town, we always suggest avoiding heavy buckets or heavy work. Doing light walks is very good, but please keep your baby safe and don't lift anything heavy.

This is a beautiful time to connect with your body, but you must treat it with utmost gentleness. Heavy lifting can strain your energy. Focus on light stretches, stay positive, and protect the precious life inside you. God bless you.

My doctor told me that if you were already lifting weights before getting pregnant, you can continue with lighter weights and modifications under guidance. However, you must avoid the Valsalva maneuver (holding your breath) and lying flat on your back after the first trimester.

Staying active is great, but pregnancy changes your joint stability. I have to be very careful with my workouts due to my diabetes, and my wife was also advised to stick to light dumbbells and swimming. Avoid heavy lifting as it can increase abdominal pressure.

I am quite new to this and a bit scared of doing anything wrong. Is lifting light grocery bags or a small bucket of water also considered unsafe, or is it only about heavy gym workouts? I want to make sure I stay totally safe.
