Can doctors prescribe weight loss pills?

I've been trying to lose weight for a long time, but it's very difficult to stick to diets and exercise. Someone mentioned that doctors sometimes prescribe pills for weight loss. Is this true, and is it a common practice in India?

Yes, doctors can prescribe specific FDA-approved weight loss medications, but they only do it if your BMI is very high or if you have related health risks. I highly recommend going to a proper endocrinologist at a good hospital and asking them clearly about the pros and cons instead of taking random stuff.

They do prescribe them sometimes, but only as a temporary support alongside a strict diet and exercise routine. These medicines can have side effects on your gut and mood, so please never take them without a proper prescription and regular checkups.

My mother always tells me that slow and steady natural weight loss is the safest, and we should just drink warm water and walk daily. But actually, if you have severe metabolic issues, a doctor's advice is best. They can safely evaluate if you need medical help or pills.

I was super desperate last year and begged my doctor for weight loss pills because I was panicked about my sudden weight gain. He reassured me that my blood reports were fine and advised me to fix my sleep and daily walks first. Honestly, once I got consistent with that, the weight started dropping naturally without any pills.

Yes, they can prescribe them, but only under strict medical supervision for obesity. Please avoid buying those weight loss supplements advertised online as they can be very dangerous.
