Can diet drinks cause weight gain?

I switched to diet soft drinks hoping to cut calories and help with weight loss. But surprisingly, I feel like I'm not losing weight, and sometimes even gaining it. Can diet drinks actually make you gain weight?

Hey, don't stress too much about it! Technically they have zero calories, so they won't make you gain weight directly. But sometimes they just make you crave sweet stuff later, so just keep an eye on that and you're good to go.

I think the real trap is that drinking a diet coke makes me feel like I saved calories, so I end up ordering an extra plate of cheese butter masala! That is how diet drinks cause weight gain in my life. It is all mind games!

I totally understand why you are worried about this, weight journey can be so stressful. I used to feel so guilty after drinking diet sodas, thinking they were secretly making me fat. The truth is they don't, but the anxiety around them can make you feel bloated.

From a purely thermodynamic standpoint, zero calories means no fat gain. However, the artificial sweeteners can trigger your sweet receptors, making you overeat actual calories elsewhere during the day. Track your total daily food intake and you'll be fine.

Bhai, these bottled chemical drinks are not good for health anyway. Even if they say zero calories, they make your stomach feel heavy and bloated, which feels like weight gain. Normal fresh buttermilk or nimbu paani is much better for our body.

I actually stopped drinking them entirely last month and noticed my belly bloating went down significantly. Even though the scale didn't show much change, I feel much lighter. They definitely cause water retention and gas, which looks like weight gain.

Yes, I agree. They don't have calories but can increase your overall sweet cravings, leading to weight gain.
