Can anti depression pills cause weight loss?

On anti-depression medication for a couple of months now, I've surprisingly lost some weight. I always heard they cause weight gain. Can anti-depression pills also cause weight loss as a side effect?

Yes, they definitely can, especially during the first few weeks of starting. I lost around 4 kgs because of the constant mild nausea and zero appetite. My tip is to eat small portions of high-calorie foods like nuts or bananas, even when you don't feel like it, so your energy levels don't crash.

Beta, when you are fighting depression, your eating habits get totally disturbed. Some pills make you lose weight initially as your brain adjusts to the chemicals, but don't worry, your appetite will return to normal in a month or two once your mind feels more stable and at peace.

Weight fluctuations are a very common response to antidepressants, as they directly impact your serotonin levels and appetite. Since my schedule is super busy, I set alarms to eat quick, nutritious meals like sprouts or fruit bowls when my appetite dropped. Keep your psychiatrist in the loop so they can monitor your BMI.

I completely understand how worrying it is when you notice sudden weight loss after starting these pills, it made me so anxious that I wanted to stop the medicine. But please rest assured that this is a known side effect for certain antidepressant molecules. Talk to your doctor to see if your dosage is fine.

Actually, yes yaar, it happened to me too when I started my treatment last year. I lost a lot of weight in the first month because I just forgot to eat, literally had zero cravings. But it gets better after some time, so don't stress too much about it.

Since I have PCOS, my weight is always a sensitive topic and any sudden drop makes me very cautious. Some antidepressants do cause weight loss, but it's important to make sure it's not due to a thyroid shift or other hormonal imbalances. I'd suggest getting a routine checkup done just to be safe.

Our bodies are beautiful instruments that react to everything we put in them, including these pills. If you are losing weight, just accept it as a temporary phase of your healing journey and focus on keeping your mind positive. Take gentle care of yourself and eat whatever light food brings you joy.

The chemical changes from these medications can sometimes weaken your digestive fire, leading to weight loss. Along with your regular prescription, practicing gentle pranayama like Anulom Vilom daily can help restore balance to your nervous system and gradually improve your appetite naturally.
