Can anti anxiety meds cause weight loss?

Since starting anti-anxiety medication recently, I've surprisingly noticed a drop in my appetite and a little bit of weight loss. Can these kinds of medicines actually cause weight loss as a side effect?

Different anxiety medications affect the metabolic system in completely different ways. Don't rely on random forum comments saying 'yes' or 'no' because what caused weight loss for someone else might make you gain weight. Verify this directly with your prescribing psychiatrist.

I started my new anxiety meds two weeks ago and I've already lost 2 kgs because my appetite has just vanished. Honestly, I'm a bit scared about this sudden drop. Did anyone else also experience this when they first started their treatment?

Beta, when you are constantly anxious, your stomach is always tight and you don't digest food properly. Once the medicines start working and your mind relaxes, some people lose water weight while others gain back their healthy appetite. Don't worry too much, just keep your doctor informed.

When I first started my meds, my appetite dropped and I lost some weight, which made me panic thinking something was wrong with my liver or stomach. But my doctor reassured me that as your body adjusts to the chemicals, your appetite stabilizes. Within a month, my weight became completely normal again.

Hey! Yes, actually, some anti-anxiety pills can make you feel a bit nauseous or just less hungry in the beginning, leading to some weight loss. Just make sure you are eating small, frequent meals so you don't get too weak. Keep your doc updated on how you are feeling.

It can definitely happen, especially during the first few weeks when your body is adjusting! 🌸 Just make sure you are drinking enough water and eating healthy snacks. Definitely tell your doc so they can track your progress nicely!
