Can a rheumatologist prescribe weight loss medication?

My rheumatologist has advised me to lose weight because it's putting a lot of strain on my knees. I'm finding it hard to shed kilos with just diet and exercise. I was wondering if a rheumatologist can actually prescribe medications for weight loss, or if I would need to consult a different specialist for that.

Don't trust random claims online about getting easy weight loss prescriptions. A rheumatologist focuses on arthritis and autoimmune issues. While they might discuss weight management for joint health, you should consult an endocrinologist or general physician for weight loss medications.

Don't waste your consultation time asking a rheumatologist for weight loss meds. Their focus is purely on autoimmune diseases and joint health. Book an appointment with an endocrinologist or a general physician directly to get the right guidance.

Hello! While losing weight is often recommended by rheumatologists to reduce pressure on aching joints, they rarely prescribe these medications themselves. They will usually refer you to your general physician or an endocrinologist who specializes in metabolic health.

Hey! 😊 Generally, rheumatologists don't prescribe weight loss pills because their main focus is helping you with joint pain and arthritis. But they can definitely guide you on safe exercises and refer you to a great specialist for weight management!

Haha, I wish my bone doctor could just write me a magic weight loss pill too! But honestly, they usually stick to managing joint pains and autoimmune stuff. For weight issues, they'll probably just tell you to eat less parathas and refer you to a dietitian.

Hey, don't stress too much about this. If you need help with weight management because of joint pain, your rheumatologist will surely suggest a safe plan. But for actual weight loss medicines, they will probably tell you to see a general doc or a diet expert.

Technically, any licensed medical doctor can prescribe medications, but specialists prefer to stick to their domain. A rheumatologist is unlikely to initiate weight loss pharmacotherapy unless it directly impacts your rheumatic treatment protocol. It is best to consult an endocrinologist.
