Can a ketogenic diet cause diabetes?

I've been trying to lose weight, and many of my friends are raving about the keto diet for quick results. I'm thinking of trying it, but I also heard a rumour that it can sometimes lead to diabetes if followed long-term. Is there any truth to this claim, or is it just misinformation?

My physician explained that while a ketogenic diet doesn't directly cause type 2 diabetes, long-term extreme keto can sometimes lead to physiological insulin resistance. This is because the body gets so used to not processing carbs that it temporarily struggles to handle them when you do eat them. It is highly recommended to consult an endocrinologist or clinical nutritionist before going on such an extreme diet.

Don't fall for internet fitness gurus claiming that keto is a magic pill or that it causes diabetes out of nowhere. A highly restrictive diet like keto can affect your metabolism in complex ways, so you shouldn't start it blindly based on social media trends. Always get proper blood work done and verify with a certified doctor before making drastic dietary changes.

A keto diet does not directly cause diabetes, but prolonged carb restriction can sometimes lead to temporary insulin resistance. Consult a doctor before starting.

I tried a strict keto diet for six months and actually ended up with very erratic fasting blood sugar levels, which really scared me. My doctor told me my body had developed temporary insulin resistance due to the zero-carb intake. I had to slowly reintroduce healthy carbs to get my glucose levels back to normal, so please be very careful with long-term keto.

Honestly, I am so sleep-deprived from work that just thinking about cutting out carbs makes me want to cry. While a keto diet won't directly give you diabetes, messing with your body's energy sources so drastically can definitely stress your system. If you are going to try it, just make sure to keep an eye on your blood sugar levels so you don't end up with unexpected health issues.

Listen to me, don't worry too much about keto causing diabetes, as it is highly unlikely to happen. However, extreme diets can put a lot of pressure on your liver and kidneys if not done under supervision. Take care of yourself, don't skip meals, and make sure to get a proper medical checkup before starting any major diet plan.

Hey there! 🌸 A ketogenic diet generally doesn't cause diabetes, but because it is so high in fats and low in carbs, it can definitely affect how your body manages insulin over time. It's super important to listen to your body and not push it too far. Getting a doctor's opinion before jumping in is always a great idea! ✨

I was actually looking into the keto diet last year to lose some weight, and I was so worried about how it affects blood sugar. From what I've learned, keto doesn't cause diabetes, but it can change how your body responds to carbs if you stay on it too long. It is always best to talk to a dietician first so you don't accidentally mess up your metabolism.
