Are weighted vests good for weight loss?

To make my gym workouts more effective for losing weight, I'm exploring new methods. I saw some people wearing weighted vests while exercising and was wondering if they actually help with burning more calories and speeding up weight loss.

My back hurts just looking at those weighted vests! Honestly, at my age, carrying extra weight on purpose sounds like an invitation for a slip disc. I think I'll stick to just carrying my grocery bags for resistance training.

I tried using a 5kg weighted vest for my evening walks for a couple of weeks. Personally, it just made my shoulders very sore and didn't make a huge difference to my weight. I preferred going back to normal fast walking.

They do help increase calorie burn slightly during walks or bodyweight workouts by adding resistance. But if you have any history of knee or back issues, stay away. It is not some miracle product, just a simple gym tool.

Don't fall for these fitness influencer trends on social media. Wearing heavy vests without proper posture can mess up your joints and spine permanently. Please talk to a physiotherapist or doctor before buying one.

Please be careful with your joints. Years ago, I ignored mild knee pain and kept doing heavy workouts, which ended up causing severe joint damage that required surgery. If you feel any joint strain while using a vest, stop immediately and get a checkup.
