Are weight loss drugs tax deductible?

My doctor has advised me to consider some treatments for weight management, which might involve certain medications. I was wondering if the expenses for these prescribed weight loss drugs are eligible for tax deduction under Indian tax laws.

As far as Indian income tax rules go, weight loss medications don't fall under Section 80D or specific medical exemptions. I track all my healthcare expenses on my app, and unfortunately, lifestyle treatments are excluded. You can only claim insurance premiums and certain critical illness treatments.

I do not think the government gives tax benefits on these modern weight loss treatments. It is better to focus on a healthy lifestyle with warm water, fenugreek seeds, and clean home food. These safe habits cost nothing and keep your health intact without tax worries.

Generally, these are not deductible unless they are part of a treatment for a serious diagnosed disease. When I was visiting my consultant at the hospital, they clearly told me that cosmetic or weight management bills don't get those tax benefits. You should clarify this with your CA to be absolutely sure.

No, they aren't tax-deductible under current laws. Don't waste your precious hours compiling bills for your tax returns expecting a rebate on this. Focus your energy on finding a sustainable health plan that fits your pocket instead.

Haha, I wish! If losing weight was tax-deductible, half of India would be gymming day and night just to save some tax. Sadly, the taxman doesn't care about our waistlines, only our wallets.
