Are sprints good for weight loss?

I've started going to the gym and my trainer suggested incorporating sprints into my workout routine. I want to lose some stubborn belly fat. Are sprints an effective exercise for overall weight loss and burning fat quickly?

Sprints are excellent for burning calories quickly because of the high intensity, but they are very hard on the joints. If your doctor allows, start with brisk walking and slow jogging first to build stamina before attempting fast sprints.

High-intensity sprints can actually raise cortisol levels (stress hormone), which isn't always great if you have PCOS like me. I found that steady-state cardio or strength training works much better for my hormonal weight loss.

My body would go on a permanent strike if I tried to sprint now! For us middle-aged folks, a simple 45-minute daily walk is much safer and won't break our knees. Leave sprinting to the college kids.

Sprinting is great but don't stress too much if you can't do it, buddy. Even a consistent evening walk or playing some badminton with friends burns a ton of calories. Just keep moving and enjoy the process!

Sprints can help, but if you have thyroid issues, your energy levels might be too low for such intense workouts. Make sure to get your TSH levels checked regularly and plan your exercise intensity with your doctor's advice.
