Are russet potatoes good for weight loss?

Really trying to make better food choices to support my weight loss journey. I know potatoes get a bad rap sometimes, but I do like them. Specifically, are russet potatoes something I can include in my diet while trying to lose weight?

I’ve been so scared of eating russet potatoes because of their high starch content. Has anyone else felt super guilty after eating them while trying to lose weight? I read they spike insulin quite fast compared to sweet potatoes.

Russet potatoes are very cheap and filling, which is great for a budget diet. But if you are trying to lose weight, you might want to spend on regular lipid and thyroid tests to make sure your metabolism is in check. Plan your meals carefully around simple boiled options.

Honestly, russets are okay if you bake or boil them, but they have a super high glycemic index. Personally, I switched to sweet potatoes or red potatoes for my cutting phase because they keep me full for way longer without the sudden energy crash.

If you are trying to lose weight and have borderline high sugar, russet potatoes can be tricky. They digest very quickly and can cause glucose spikes, which leads to more cravings. I limit them strictly and suggest checking your blood levels regularly.

My son wanted to lose weight but refused to give up potatoes, so we had to find a balance. I stopped frying russet potatoes and started baking them with the skin on and zero butter. It worked well for him as a side dish along with lots of protein.

In my seventy years, I have seen so many diet trends come and go. No single potato will make you gain or lose weight. If you eat them boiled in moderation and keep physically active, your body will stay in good balance.

For those of us managing PCOS, high-starch foods like russet potatoes can sometimes worsen insulin resistance, making weight loss even harder. I try to avoid them or eat them in very small, measured portions. It is always best to consult your doctor about your specific carb tolerance.

Actually, russet potatoes have a lot of calories if you mash them with milk and butter, yaar. If you are serious about weight loss, just boil them, let them cool down to build resistant starch, and eat them with salads. It works much better.
