Are rice cakes good for weight loss?

All my friends who are on a diet swear by rice cakes as a low-calorie snack. Trying to lose some weight myself, I wondered if adding rice cakes to my routine is a good idea. Will they actually help with weight loss?

I am quite new to dieting and someone suggested these instead of bread. They are very light, but do they actually keep you full? I feel like I would get hungry again in half an hour.

I completely understand the struggle of trying to find snacks that don't make you feel guilty. I used to choke down dry rice cakes thinking they were the only option, but they made me feel so unsatisfied emotionally. Eating a small bowl of real puffed rice with veggies felt much better.

I panicked when I saw my sugar shoot up slightly after eating three rice cakes on an empty stomach. But once I learned to eat them with a boiled egg or some paneer, it became totally fine. Don't worry, just don't eat them plain.

I was researching healthy snacks last week and saw mixed reviews about rice cakes. While they are low calorie, they have a very high glycemic index. It seems like our Indian murmura or bhel is actually a cheaper and tastier option if made with less oil.

They are very low in calories, usually around 35 kcal per cake, which is great for your daily budget. However, they are pure carbs with almost zero fiber or protein, so your insulin might spike. I always track them in my app and pair them with a tablespoon of peanut butter to balance the macros.

With PCOS, insulin resistance is a big issue, so I have to be extremely careful with refined carbs like rice cakes. They can spike blood sugar very quickly which isn't great for our hormones. I'd suggest checking with your doctor or clinical nutritionist before replacing regular meals with them.
