Are refried beans good for weight loss?

To incorporate more plant-based proteins for weight loss, a friend suggested refried beans. Are they actually good for shedding kilos, or are they too calorie-dense to be helpful?

Honestly, buying those fancy canned western beans is expensive and not needed. If you want weight loss, just make simple boiled rajma or chana at home with very little oil. It gives you the same high fiber and protein without the extra fat of refried beans.

My teenage son was struggling with his weight and loved Mexican food, so I had to find a middle ground. I started making refried beans at home using boiled red kidney beans, mashing them with just a teaspoon of olive oil and garlic. It's super filling and much healthier for weight management.

When I went to Apollo for my diet counseling, the clinical nutritionist told me to avoid canned refried foods entirely during weight loss because of the hidden fats. It is always better to consult a certified dietitian who can plan your daily macros based on your body weight.

For fat loss, you need to stay in a calorie deficit while keeping protein high. Homemade refried beans are great for this because they are loaded with plant-based protein. Pair them with a good workout routine and you will see steady progress without losing muscle mass.

As someone working in health, I always look at the nutritional panel first. Canned refried beans are usually high in sodium and fats, which can make you retain water and stall your weight loss. If you make them yourself using minimal oil, the high fiber content will actually help your digestion and satiety.

Beans are amazing for protein and keeping you full, but refried ones often contain a lot of saturated fats. If your health permits, try adding some moderate cardio or a 45-minute brisk walk daily along with eating clean, home-cooked beans. That combo works wonders for fat loss.
