Are massages safe during pregnancy?

My lower back pain has been unbearable during this pregnancy, and I really want to get a massage. My sister warned me about some pressure points. Are massages generally safe for pregnant women, or should I be careful about certain types?

Massages are generally safe after the first trimester, but you must be very careful. Since I had thyroid issues and swelling during my pregnancy, my doctor advised me to avoid deep-tissue massages. Always keep up with your regular checkups and ask your gynecologist first.

In our family, we have a tradition of gentle home massages, but my mother insisted we ask our gynecologist first. The doctor said light, gentle strokes on the arms and legs are fine, but we must strictly avoid the abdomen and certain pressure points on the ankles.

I totally get it, the body aches and back pain during pregnancy can be so exhausting. A gentle massage can feel like heaven, but please make sure the therapist is trained specifically in prenatal care. Don't let anyone massage your stomach or lower back too hard.

Yes, they can be super relaxing! Just make sure to wait until your second trimester and only go to a certified prenatal massage therapist who knows how to position you safely. It really helps with the body aches!

They are safe as long as you avoid the first trimester and go to a licensed prenatal therapist. Always consult your gynecologist beforehand.

I had regular, very gentle prenatal massages from a specialized therapist during my second and third trimesters. It helped immensely with my leg cramps and sleep quality, though we made sure to get a clear green light from my doctor first.
