Are heating pads safe during pregnancy?

My doctor suggested using a heating pad for my persistent lower backache during pregnancy. However, I'm a bit hesitant as I've heard conflicting advice. Are heating pads generally considered safe to use when pregnant?

Yes, they are generally safe for back and joint pain. Just avoid using them on your abdomen and keep the heat level low.

My wife panicked when she accidentally used an electric heating pad for 20 minutes on her back, thinking it would harm the baby. But our gynecologist reassured us that local heat on the back is perfectly fine as long as your core body temperature doesn't rise. Don't worry!

When I was expecting my daughter, my lower back used to ache terribly. I used a warm water bag wrapped in a thick towel on my back for 10 minutes, and it helped so much. Just be careful to keep it away from your stomach.

Since I've had a complicated health history with PCOS, I prefer being extra cautious. Warm pads are usually safe for muscle aches, but please check with your doctor during your next scan to be absolutely sure for your specific case.

My wife used them for her leg cramps during pregnancy. Since we were also managing her gestational diabetes, we made sure to keep all lifestyle habits very safe and always got the doctor's approval before trying any pain relief methods.
