Are gel nails safe during pregnancy?

Being pregnant, I'm looking forward to my baby shower. I was thinking of getting gel nails done for the occasion, but my friend said I should check first. Is it safe to get gel nails done while pregnant, or should I avoid it?

Honestly, during pregnancy, your body is already dealing with so many changes. Just like we focus on clean eating and breathing fresh air during workouts, keeping chemical exposure low is a good idea. Maybe skip the gel polish for a few months and let your natural nails breathe.

Technically, the chemicals in gel nails can have harsh fumes, and those UV lamps aren't ideal either. If you really want them, make sure the salon is extremely well-ventilated so you aren't inhaling anything bad. But honestly, normal nail polish is a much safer, hassle-free bet right now.

I have been overthinking this so much lately because my sister's wedding is coming up! Did anyone else actually get gel extensions done in their second trimester and everything was fine? I am just so scared of the UV light and the strong chemical smell in those tiny salons.

Why take the risk and spend extra money on gel setups right now? Normal nail polish from any good brand works fine and is easy to remove at home with a basic remover. Save the fancy salon trips for after the baby comes, simpler is always better.

Since pregnancy hormones fluctuate so much, even your nails can get very brittle, just like what happens in thyroid issues. I always check with my doctor before trying any cosmetic treatments because our bodies are extra sensitive right now. Definitely mention it at your next routine checkup.

When we were consulting our doctor at Manipal Hospital, they told us to avoid unnecessary cosmetic chemical procedures, especially in the first trimester. Honestly, the safest thing is to just call your OB-GYN's clinic and ask them directly before booking your salon appointment.

Beta, in our days we only used simple mehendi or basic nail polish. These new gel things have very strong smells which are not good for your health right now. Just eat well, take rest, and keep these cosmetic things aside for a few months.

Pregnancy is a very sensitive time, and you never know how your body might react to the strong chemicals in gel polish. Even if friends say it's fine, please consult your doctor first. It is always better to be 100% safe when it comes to the baby's health.

Arrey, your hands are going to be busy washing baby bottles and changing diapers soon anyway! Why spend thousands on gel nails just to watch them get ruined? Jokes aside, keep it simple for now and get those fancy nails done as a post-delivery pamper session!

My bhabhi was super obsessed with her nail art but she totally skipped gel nails during her pregnancy. She said the smell of the chemical remover made her feel so sick anyway. Normal polish is way safer and u can change the colors easily too!

Congratulations on your pregnancy, beta! See, gel nails aren't strictly banned, but the chemical fumes and acetone soaking can sometimes make you feel nauseous. If you must go, just ask the salon staff to open the windows or wear a good mask during the process.

I can only tell you what I did during my own pregnancy journey. I actually stopped getting gel manicures entirely and switched to regular 5-free nail polishes at home. It just gave me peace of mind not having my hands under that UV curing lamp.

When my wife was expecting, her gynaecologist specifically advised against gel polish mainly because of the UV exposure and the chemicals in the bonding agents. Also, if you need any emergency medical monitoring, clear nails are preferred so doctors can check your pulse oximeter easily. Please ask your doc about this.

Having dealt with hormonal imbalances like PCOS, I am always a bit extra careful about chemical exposures and endocrine disruptors. Gel manicures involve a lot of chemicals, so I personally chose to avoid them during my pregnancy just to be safe. It’s better to go natural for a bit.

Look, it’s mostly about the ventilation and the acetone they use for removal. If you are going to a high-end, clean salon that uses toxic-free brands, it’s generally considered fine. Just don't go to those cramped basement places with zero fresh air flowing.
