Are cough drops safe during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and have developed a really annoying cough recently. I want to take a cough drop for some relief, but I'm worried about what's safe for the baby. Can I use regular cough drops, or should I look for specific ones?

Actually yaar, during pregnancy you have to be super careful. Some cough drops have extra herbs or chemical ingredients that might not be great for the baby. Better to check with your gynac once before popping them.

Pregnancy makes us worry about everything, doesn't it? 🌸 Usually, mild throat drops are okay, but trying warm honey-ginger water first is a super sweet and safe alternative! Do consult your doctor just to be 100% sure. 👍

I literally just got over a terrible dry cough last week in my second trimester. My doctor explicitly prescribed a specific safe throat spray instead of over-the-counter cough drops. Please don't self-medicate right now, just call your gynecologist.

Beti, in our times we avoided bazaar medicines during pregnancy. Try doing warm water gargles with a pinch of salt and turmeric twice a day. If the cough is severe or you feel breathless, immediately show it to your doctor.

My cousin went through this last month and she said her doc advised her to stay away from random lozenges. She just stuck to warm water and ginger tea instead. Safer to ask your doctor directly, u know?

I totally panicked when I accidentally had two cough drops in my first trimester. But my doctor calmed me down and said a standard throat lozenge is generally fine, though it's still best to avoid overusing them. Just check in with your gynac for peace of mind.

I was just reading about this yesterday because my sister is expecting. It seems simple menthol drops are usually fine, but some brands contain active medicinal ingredients. It is definitely a good idea to read the back of the pack very carefully.
