Thyroid medication is prescribed to address an underlying thyroid imbalance. If your weight gain is a direct symptom of hypothyroidism, then regulating your thyroid hormones will likely aid in reducing that specific weight. However, it's not a general weight loss drug; doctor's advice is paramount.

From my own experience, when my thyroid levels were finally stable with medication, I definitely started losing the extra weight I had gained due to my underactive thyroid. It took some time, but it works. Just be consistent with your meds and doctor's visits.

If your weight gain is due to a thyroid issue, then yes, medication should help balance it and aid in weight loss.

My endocrinologist explained that thyroid medication isn't a weight loss drug, but if your thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism) and that's causing weight gain, then the medication will normalize your metabolism. This correction will lead to a gradual reduction of the thyroid-related weight.

Oh, really? I was wondering the same thing. Does it only work if your weight gain is actually caused by thyroid, or can it help generally too? My friend takes it.

If your doctor confirms your thyroid is causing the weight gain, then the meds will help, restoring your body's balance. But remember, consistent exercise, like daily brisk walking, and a healthy diet are still super important for sustainable results. Consult your doc for an overall plan.
