Will a heart ct scan show lung cancer?

My husband recently had a CT scan of his heart for some cardiac issues. We're worried about lung health too. Would a heart CT scan also be able to detect if there's any lung cancer?

When I had my heart CT scan after my cardiac issue, the doctors actually pointed out a small spot on my lung in the same scan. They said since the lungs are right there, if there's a significant anomaly, it *can* be visible. Mine turned out to be benign, but they still recommended a separate lung follow-up. So, yes, it's possible for them to see things incidentally.

I can only speak from my experience. I had a cardiac CT for a different reason, and the report did mention that my lungs appeared clear. So, while it's focused on the heart, the lungs are in the field of view. But I'm not a doctor, so can't say for sure about diagnosis.

A heart CT scan is focused on the heart, but it does image the surrounding chest area, including parts of the lungs. So, if there's a large or obvious tumor, it *might* be visible as an incidental finding. However, for proper lung cancer screening or diagnosis, a dedicated chest CT is usually performed. Regular checkups are important for overall health, including lung health.

Yes, it can sometimes show incidental findings in the lungs, as they are in the scanned area. But it's not a primary lung scan.

A heart CT is primarily for cardiac structures, but since the lungs are adjacent, significant abnormalities could show up. It wouldn't be as detailed as a dedicated lung CT though. Regular exercise, like daily walks, and avoiding smoking are great for both heart and lung health, if your doctor says it's okay.

When my sister had a heart issue, her scan showed some shadows near her lungs too, which they then investigated separately. So while it's not meant for lungs, the doctors can spot things. It's good they are thorough with these scans, shows how interconnected our bodies are.
