Why is there so much pain after knee replacement?

My father had a knee replacement surgery last month, and he's still complaining about a lot of pain. We thought it would be better by now, so why is there so much pain after knee replacement?

Post-knee replacement pain is definitely expected, it's major surgery after all. The first few weeks are crucial for managing pain and starting physio. Make sure you're strictly following your surgeon's pain management plan and doing all the exercises. If the pain feels abnormal or isn't easing with meds, don't delay reaching out to your doctor. Time is of essence in recovery.

My grandad had a knee replacement last year, and man, the pain was intense initially! He was on strong painkillers for weeks. It's a huge operation, they cut through bone and tissue. It gets better with physio, but it's a long process. Just make sure you're taking your meds as prescribed and doing all your rehab, don't skip it.

Please, please be careful. My uncle had a knee replacement and thought the pain was 'normal' and pushed himself too hard. He ended up with complications. Don't ignore severe or unusual pain. Always communicate honestly with your surgeon and physical therapist. It's better to be overly cautious than to regret it later.

Any major surgery like knee replacement is bound to have significant post-operative pain as part of the healing process. However, if the pain feels disproportionate, suddenly worsens, or comes with other symptoms like fever or swelling, it's absolutely crucial to get it checked by your operating surgeon immediately. Better safe than sorry when it comes to surgical recovery.

I totally understand. Major surgery like that means a lot of trauma to the body, so pain is unavoidable. While you must follow your doctor's pain plan, gentle ice packs and elevating the leg can sometimes give a little extra relief. But for actual pain management, stick to the prescribed medicines and don't try any strong home remedies without asking your doctor. Recovery is a journey.

Ah, the joys of getting older and fixing things! They basically re-engineer your leg, so of course it's going to protest for a while. Think of it as your body throwing a tantrum for all the years you made it climb stairs and dance at weddings. Seriously though, stick to the physio and meds, it's the only way to get back to normal... or at least the new normal. Hope it eases soon!

Oh, that sounds really tough. I've heard knee replacements are a big deal. Is the pain usually worse in the beginning and then gets better, or does it stay bad for a long time? Hope your recovery goes smoothly.
