Why does glioblastoma cause weight gain?

I was reading about glioblastoma, a very serious brain tumor. I was surprised to see that sometimes it can cause weight gain. This seems unusual for a severe illness. What's the reason glioblastoma might lead to weight gain?

That's a very difficult condition to deal with. Weight gain could be due to the medications used, like steroids, which can sometimes have that side effect.

Yaar, actually, it's mostly because of the steroids, like dexamethasone, that are given for glioblastoma to reduce brain swelling. These steroids can increase appetite, cause fluid retention, and alter metabolism, leading to weight gain. It's a common side effect of the treatment, not the disease itself.

With such a serious condition, weight gain is typically a side effect of the high-dose steroid medications, like dexamethasone, often prescribed to manage brain swelling. These can increase appetite and cause fluid retention. Just like with BP, regular monitoring and discussion with the doctors about managing side effects is very important for overall well-being.

It's likely not the glioblastoma itself, but the treatment! Like, steroids are commonly used, and those can really make you crave certain foods and lead to weight gain. It's like your body is trying to comfort itself with food amidst all the stress.

Hey, don't stress too much about the weight gain in such a difficult situation. It's almost certainly a side effect of the heavy medications, especially steroids, which are often used to manage brain tumors. Those can really mess with your appetite and fluid balance. Just focus on what the doctors are saying about the main treatment.

My uncle had glioblastoma, and he gained a lot of weight, which was really puzzling at first. The doctors explained it was mainly due to the high doses of steroids he was on to reduce the brain swelling. They make you retain water and increase your appetite. It's a tough balance with such serious treatment.

It's probably not the glioblastoma itself giving you a 'dad bod' (or 'mom bod'), but the heavy-duty meds trying to save your life! Steroids are notorious for making you fluffy and hungry. Your body is basically fighting a huge battle and trying to cope with the meds. Give it a break!
