Which antipsychotics cause the least weight gain?

My sister is on antipsychotics, and she's very concerned about her weight. She's trying to find a medication that won't contribute to further weight gain. Could anyone suggest which antipsychotics cause the least weight gain?

This is a complex clinical question. While some antipsychotics are generally known to have a lower propensity for weight gain (like aripiprazole, ziprasidone, or lurasidone), individual responses can vary significantly. It's crucial for the patient and their psychiatrist to discuss this thoroughly, considering the overall treatment plan and patient's health profile. Self-medication or making decisions based on internet info is never advisable.

My doctor explained that newer antipsychotics generally have a better side-effect profile regarding weight. Specifically, aripiprazole (Abilify), lurasidone (Latuda), and ziprasidone (Geodon) are often cited as having lower risks of significant weight gain compared to older ones like olanzapine or quetiapine. But it's always a discussion between patient and doctor to find the best fit.

Hey, it's totally valid to be concerned about side effects like weight gain when you're on such important medication. But please don't stress too much trying to find answers online. Your psychiatrist is the only person who can really guide you on which options might be better for you. Have an open conversation with them!

Beta, these are strong medicines for serious conditions. Weight gain is a concern, yes, but the main thing is to get well. The doctor knows best which medicine will help with the mind and cause fewest troubles for the body. Follow their guidance closely, and maybe some light walking or good food can help manage general health, but only after doctor's approval.

It's normal to worry about all side effects, especially weight gain with antipsychotics. I remember being super anxious about my own medication changes. But after talking openly with my doctor, we found an option that worked well for me without that specific side effect. The key is constant communication with your psychiatrist.

Man, dealing with mental health meds is tough. My friend was worried about weight gain from his meds too. His doctor switched him to something different that was supposed to be 'weight-neutral'. But seriously, it's all doctor's call. Don't try to self-medicate or change anything based on forums.

Antipsychotics causing weight gain? Great, another thing to keep me awake at night! I barely get enough sleep as it is. But on a serious note, better ask the doc who prescribed it. They're the ones who know what's up with these heavy medicines, not us, haan?

Ugh, meds and weight gain are such a pain! I hear some of the newer ones like Aripiprazole are supposedly better for that. But for mental health stuff, you really, really need to just ask your actual doctor, not internet strangers. Seriously, it's too important.

I totally get it, navigating medication for mental health is already so challenging, and then having to worry about side effects like weight gain adds another layer of stress. It's a very common concern. Please, please talk to your doctor about this; they can explore options that suit you better and support you through it.

For serious medications like antipsychotics, discussing side effects like weight gain with your treating psychiatrist is absolutely essential. They can explain the different profiles of each medication (like aripiprazole often being considered more 'weight-neutral') and help you make an informed decision for your mental and physical well-being. Don't hesitate to voice all your concerns.
