When to worry toddler fever?

My two-year-old son has a fever, and he's not as playful as usual. I'm keeping an eye on him, but sometimes it's hard to know if it's just a normal fever or something more serious. When should a parent really worry about a toddler's fever?

Toddler fever is so stressful, right? I always panic a bit when my little one gets one. Is it just me, or do you all also feel that little bit of anxiety about when to actually worry? I usually start worrying if it's super high or if he's not playing at all.

I once made the mistake of thinking my toddler's high fever would just pass with a sponge bath. It turned out to be a urinary infection and we caught it late. Please, if your toddler has a fever that doesn't come down with medicines, or if they seem really lethargic, or have other symptoms like vomiting or a rash, get them checked by a doctor right away. Don't wait like I did.

I totally get it, seeing your toddler with a fever is heartbreaking. For toddlers, generally, if the fever is persistently above 103°F (39.4°C), or if it's lower but they look very unwell, are very sleepy, have trouble breathing, or a rash appears, that's when you really need to see the doctor. Don't hesitate.

When my toddler gets fever, the first thing I notice is if they stop wanting their favourite snacks! 😂 If they're still eating a bit and just a bit warm, I don't worry too much. But if they refuse all food and drink, look very weak, or the fever goes really high, then it's time to put down my biryani and rush to the doc.

My younger cousin, like, totally gets fever all the time. My aunt always says if he's still running around and just a bit warm, it's chill. But if he's just lying there like a potato, or his forehead is super hot and not coming down, then it's panic mode and off to the doc they go. It's tough, man.

It's so emotionally draining when your toddler has a fever, I remember feeling so helpless. It's okay to feel worried. What really helped me was knowing that if their fever is very high (above 103F), or they're not drinking, or they seem really sick and not just sleepy, then it's serious enough to call the pediatrician. You're doing great, mama.
