When to stop working during pregnancy?

I have a desk job and am currently 5 months pregnant. My colleagues are telling me different things about when to stop working. Is there a general guideline for when to stop working during pregnancy?

In our family, elders often say to take rest in the last month. But my doctor said it depends on the job. If your work is not physically demanding and you are feeling well, you can continue closer to your due date. Always trust your doctor's assessment.

I totally get it, this is such a big decision and everyone's situation is so different. For me, I stopped about 3 weeks before my due date because I was just too tired and uncomfortable to sit at a desk all day. Listen to your body and your doctor's advice.

I remember panicking about this with my wife. We thought she had to stop super early. But her doctor reassured us that if her job wasn't stressful and she was feeling good, she could work until closer to the due date. Don't let the fear get to you, every woman is different.

Maintaining a good diet is crucial throughout pregnancy, especially if you're working. I found it harder to eat healthy and on time when I was still in office. If you feel your energy levels dropping or you can't manage your meals, it might be a good sign to consider taking a break. Your health is priority.

At the hospital where I consult, they always emphasize personalized advice. For such decisions, it is critical to have a clear discussion with your obstetrician. They will assess your health, the nature of your job, and provide specific recommendations. Don't rely on general advice.

I stopped working about 2 weeks before my due date with my first. With my second, I had to stop earlier, around 30 weeks, because I had severe back pain. Every pregnancy is different. Discuss with your HR about maternity leave policies too.

My wife just went through this! She was working from home, thankfully. But she still decided to take leave a month before. She was just too exhausted and needed to prepare. If you have a physically demanding job, you might need to stop earlier.
