When to stop lying on back during pregnancy?

My stomach is getting bigger now that I'm in my second trimester. I heard it's not good to lie on your back during pregnancy, so I want to know when I should completely stop doing that.

I just went through this! My doctor told me to start avoiding lying flat on my back from the second trimester, around 20 weeks. It's because the weight of the uterus can press on a major blood vessel. Try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees, it really helps!

As someone managing high BP, I know how important it is to follow medical advice closely, especially during pregnancy. For back sleeping, generally from the second trimester it's not advised. Your doctor will likely bring this up during checkups, but you can also ask them directly.

Oh, the pregnancy sleeping positions are tricky! Like craving gajar ka halwa, you just have to adapt! Mostly doctors say from mid-second trimester, side sleeping is better. Your body will also tell you, you might feel a bit breathless on your back.

My gynaecologist was very clear on this. She said from week 20 onwards, it's best to avoid lying flat on your back. It's due to the vena cava compression, which can reduce blood flow to you and the baby. Sleeping on your left side is usually recommended.

Because I had a few complications in my pregnancy, my doctor advised me to stop lying on my back much earlier, almost by the end of the first trimester. Everyone is different, so please consult your doctor for personalized advice. Don't take any chances.

Haan ji, this is important! Generally, after about 20 weeks, your doctor will tell you to sleep on your side. That big baby bump na, it puts pressure. My bhabhi used so many pillows to get comfy on her side!
