When to sleep on side pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester and usually sleep on my back, but my doctor told me it's better to sleep on my side. When exactly in pregnancy should I start making sure I only sleep on my side, and which side is better?

Around the second trimester, usually after 20 weeks, doctors advise sleeping on your side, preferably the left. The baby starts growing and sleeping on your back can put pressure on a major blood vessel. You can use extra pillows to support your bump and between your knees for comfort. Simple solutions help a lot.

Oh, this is something I'm already thinking about! I heard left side is best, but what if I accidentally roll onto my back while sleeping? Does that happen to other moms-to-be? It makes me a bit anxious. When did you all find it really became uncomfortable to sleep on your back?

I totally get why you're asking, it's another one of those things that can make you overthink during pregnancy! Generally, it's advised to start sleeping on your side, especially the left, from around 20 weeks onwards. This is to ensure good blood flow. If you wake up on your back, just gently shift. Don't worry too much, just be mindful.

Beti, once your tummy starts showing properly, usually after five months, it's better to sleep on your side. The left side is good for the baby. Just put a pillow under your tummy and between your knees, it gives good support. It's a small change but helps a lot for you and the little one.

My wife switched to sleeping on her side from around her fifth month of pregnancy. The doc told us it's better for blood flow for the baby. She used a long pillow to support her belly, said it helped a lot. So, yeah, usually mid-pregnancy onwards, start sleeping on the side.
