When to see a doctor for fever in child?

My 2-year-old has had a mild fever for the past day. He's playing, but feels warm to touch. We've been giving him fluids. What are the signs or temperatures that tell me it's time to see a doctor for fever in a child, and not just manage it at home?

Oh, this question gives me so much anxiety whenever my little one gets a fever! I always overthink if I should wait or rush to the doctor. Generally, if they are under 3 months and have any fever, it's a definite doc visit. For older kids, if it's very high (like 102°F or more), or they seem unusually tired, have trouble breathing, or it lasts more than 2-3 days, don't wait. It's okay to be cautious!

For kids' fevers, it sounds really concerning. Is there a specific temperature that is always a red flag, no matter the age? Like, does 104°F always mean hospital?

I always get so worried when my son has a fever. Does anyone else feel like they second-guess themselves about going to the doctor? I usually go if it's 102F+ or if he's not eating or playing normally for a whole day. Is that too soon or too late?

Beta, for small children, a fever is always a worry for the parents. First, check with a thermometer. If it is very high, above 101 or 102, or if the child is very cranky, not eating, or breathing fast, then you must take them to a doctor without delay. A wet cloth on the forehead helps, but never delay consulting a doctor for small children.

My sister has a small kid, and she always tells me if the baby is under 3 months, any fever means a doc visit right away. For older kids, if it's above 102F (39C) and not coming down with meds, or if they seem really lethargic or have any weird rash, then it's emergency time. Don't mess with kids' fevers, bro.

Fevers are tricky with little ones! 👶 Generally, if baby is under 3 months and has ANY fever, definitely see the doctor immediately. For older kids, if it's really high (102°F+/39°C+), or if they look very unwell, are breathing fast, or have a rash, it's time for a doc visit! Better to be safe than sorry! ✨
