When do u start lactating in pregnancy?

I'm expecting my first child and a little worried about breastfeeding. My aunt said sometimes milk comes in very early. When does a woman typically start lactating during pregnancy, actually?

It's common to notice a yellowish fluid, colostrum, sometimes from the second trimester, like 20 weeks onwards. But if you have any concerns or see anything unusual, always best to get it checked by your gynaecologist, just to be on the safe side.

With my first, I started noticing colostrum around 22 weeks. It was just a few drops sometimes. It's your body getting ready to feed the baby. Don't worry if you see it, or if you don't – both are normal experiences. Just keep your doctor updated.

In my wife's case, the doctor explained that colostrum can appear from the second trimester, around 16-20 weeks. This is the body preparing. For any specific concerns or if you notice anything unusual, always ask your gynaecologist directly during your check-ups. They are the best resource.

The body is wise and prepares itself slowly. Colostrum, the early milk, may begin to form around the second trimester, say from the 4th or 5th month. It is a sign of your body nurturing the new life. Keep calm and trust the process, but do discuss any concerns with your doctor.

Your breasts might start producing colostrum during the second trimester, getting ready for the baby. It's a natural part of pregnancy.

So it's not like proper milk, but more like a preparation? And it can happen even before the last few months? Is it normal if some people don't see anything at all until after the baby is born?

Colostrum, the first milk, can start appearing from your breasts around the middle of your pregnancy, usually 16-20 weeks. Full milk production begins after birth. It's a natural process, nothing to stress about. Consult your doctor if any doubt.
