When can you see pregnancy on ultrasound?

My period is a little late, and I've taken a home test which was positive. My gynaecologist asked me to come for an ultrasound next week, but I'm just curious about how soon they can actually see the baby on the screen. Is it visible this early?

Oh, I remember being so anxious during my first pregnancy ultrasound! I went in too early and couldn't see much, which made me panic. But my doctor reassured me. Usually, a gestational sac can be seen by transvaginal ultrasound around 5 weeks. A fetal pole around 6 weeks, and the heartbeat around 5.5-6 weeks. So don't worry if it's super early and you don't see much.

I totally get that eager anticipation to see your baby for the first time! It's such a milestone. Usually, with a transvaginal ultrasound, you can see the gestational sac around 5 weeks. The yolk sac appears soon after, and then the fetal pole and heartbeat around 5.5 to 6 weeks. Sometimes, it just takes a little longer to become visible, so try not to stress if you're on the earlier side.

Generally, you can see something on an ultrasound around 5-6 weeks from your last period. Pehle you might only see the gestational sac, then fetal pole and heartbeat a bit later. Doctor will tell you when to come for the first scan for clear visibility. Don't rush it, just follow their advice.

Namaste. It's a wonderful journey you are on. Our elders often say patience is key. For an ultrasound, usually, by 5 to 6 weeks after your last period, a gestational sac can be seen, and soon after, a tiny heartbeat too. Your doctor will schedule the right time for your first scan to ensure good visibility. Trust their judgment completely.

As someone who emphasizes regular medical monitoring, especially with thyroid conditions, I can tell you that a transvaginal ultrasound can typically detect a gestational sac as early as 4.5 to 5 weeks of pregnancy. A fetal pole, indicating the embryo, is usually visible by 5.5 to 6 weeks, often with a heartbeat. Always ensure your doctor is aware of any underlying health conditions as it may influence monitoring schedules.
