What to stay away from during pregnancy?

I just found out I'm pregnant, and I'm really excited but also a bit overwhelmed. I want to make sure I'm doing everything right, so I'm wondering what foods or activities I absolutely need to stay away from during pregnancy. My sister-in-law gave me a long list, but I want to double-check.

During pregnancy, it's crucial to avoid alcohol, smoking, and recreational drugs entirely. Also, certain foods like unpasteurized dairy, raw or undercooked meats/fish, and high-mercury fish should be avoided. Always consult your obstetrician for a comprehensive list and personalized advice, as each pregnancy is unique.

Our elders always tell us to be very careful during pregnancy, no spicy food, rest well. But truly, listen to your doctor. Avoid raw papayas, pineapples in excess, certain fish with high mercury, and definitely no alcohol or smoking. Also, reduce caffeine intake. Trust your doctor more than any home advice when it comes to critical health matters.

My doctor gave me a very detailed list! Key things to avoid are raw or undercooked meat and eggs, unpasteurized milk and cheese, and certain types of fish high in mercury like swordfish. Also, processed meats, excessive caffeine, and obviously alcohol and nicotine. They also stressed avoiding certain medications without consultation, even over-the-counter ones.

Oh, during pregnancy, it felt like the list of 'don'ts' was longer than the 'dos,' haha! But seriously, no raw anything – raw fish (sushi), raw eggs, raw sprouts. And avoid unpasteurized dairy. Plus, stay far away from alcohol and smoking. Basically, play it safe. My doctor used to joke that the baby dictates the menu, and they're very strict!

Please be extremely cautious. I know someone who had complications from eating certain unwashed fruits. So, it's not just the big no-nos. Always wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly, avoid street food, and for any specific food or medicine, always, always verify with your doctor. Don't take chances, pregnancy is too delicate.

Pregnancy is a delicate phase. Apart from the obvious alcohol and smoking, it's crucial to be mindful of certain foods that can pose risks. Avoid high-mercury fish, raw or undercooked meats and eggs, and unpasteurized dairy. Also, certain herbal supplements can be risky. Always check with your doctor; don't rely on guesswork.

As a parent, I can tell you that the most important thing is to follow your doctor's instructions to the T. Beyond alcohol and smoking, stay away from unpasteurized foods, high-mercury fish, and any medication not approved by your OB-GYN. Also, avoid strenuous activities or anything that could cause a fall. Just be extra careful and practical for the baby's safety.
