What to pack for inpatient mental health treatment?

A friend of mine is going for inpatient mental health treatment next week, and I want to help her pack. What kind of items are generally allowed and useful to pack for such a stay? I don't want to pack anything inappropriate.

This sounds like a huge step, and it's totally normal to feel anxious about it. I'd definitely pack comfortable clothes, like track pants and soft t-shirts, maybe your favorite blanket if allowed. Also, a journal and pen could be really helpful. Double-check with the facility for any prohibited items, that's what I'd be most worried about forgetting!

I haven't been through this personally, but I've heard from a friend that comfortable, loose clothing is essential. Also, personal hygiene items, but often they have restrictions on things with alcohol or sharp objects, so check with the facility first. A good book or puzzle might help pass the time too.

This is a big step towards well-being. From a cautious perspective, check with the facility about what's allowed and what's not - often there are strict rules for safety. Besides clothes, maybe some comfort items like a soft scarf or a photo, if permitted. Focus on things that bring you calm, but without overthinking too much, it's about healing.

Oh, that's a big step! While they handle the food there, I'd probably sneak in some healthy snacks if allowed, like energy bars or some dried fruits, just for those little cravings. And definitely comfy clothes, no restrictive jeans. Maybe a good book to distract yourself too!

Comfortable clothes and personal hygiene items are key. Always check the facility's specific list for what's allowed.

This is a courageous decision for your well-being. Always call the facility beforehand to get their exact list of allowed and prohibited items – it varies a lot. Generally, comfortable clothing, basic toiletries (non-aerosol, no alcohol), a journal, and perhaps a beloved photo or comfort item (if permitted) are good. Focus on what will make you feel safe and at ease.

I went through this a while ago. Absolutely pack comfortable, loose clothing – things you can easily relax in. A journal and a pen were lifesavers for me. Don't forget your personal toiletries, but they usually have a list of what's allowed (no aerosols, sometimes no sharp razors). It's a brave step, you've got this.
