What to expect if you refuse cancer treatment?

My uncle has been diagnosed with cancer, and he's considering refusing treatment due to his age and other health issues. Our family is trying to understand what we should expect if he goes this route. What kind of symptoms or progression might occur?

Yaar, that's a very personal and tough decision. Actually, if you refuse treatment, the cancer will likely progress, you know? Your doctors will probably focus on palliative care, to manage pain and symptoms so you're comfortable. It's really about quality of life then.

This is a serious matter. If you refuse treatment, the cancer will grow and spread. Doctors will then shift to making sure you are as comfortable as possible, managing pain and other symptoms. You must discuss all options and consequences with your medical team thoroughly.

That sounds like a really difficult choice. If someone decides against active treatment, the focus usually moves to supportive care, like pain relief and maintaining comfort. It's important to have a good support system around you, both family and medical. Please talk everything through with your doctors and family.

Such a brave and personal decision! ✨ If you choose not to proceed with treatment, the medical team will definitely help you manage symptoms and ensure comfort, which is called palliative care. It's about making your remaining time as peaceful as possible. 🙏

My neighbour had to make a similar tough decision. The doctors were very understanding and helped her focus on living comfortably. They explained that the disease would progress, but they would ensure she had no pain. It's about dignity and peace at that stage.

If a patient refuses cancer treatment, the medical team respects that autonomy. The disease will likely advance. The focus then shifts entirely to palliative care, which means managing pain, nausea, fatigue, and other symptoms to maximize comfort and quality of life. It's crucial to have open discussions with your healthcare providers about your wishes.

I haven't personally been in that situation, but I've read about people making that choice. The medical team's goal shifts to providing comfort and managing symptoms. They'll make sure you're not in pain and help you maintain your quality of life as much as possible.
