What to eat before pregnancy glucose screening?

My doctor has scheduled my glucose screening for next week, and I'm a bit nervous about it. Someone told me what I eat before can affect the results. What should I have for breakfast that morning so everything is accurate?

I totally get it, that glucose screening can be a bit nerve-wracking! Usually, your doctor will tell you if it's a fasting test or not. If it's the 1-hour one, they often say you can eat normally, just avoid super sugary stuff before. For the 3-hour one, it's definitely fasting. Always confirm with your gynaecologist!

Honestly, by that point in my wife's pregnancy, I was just happy if she ate *anything* that stayed down. 😂 But seriously, they usually tell you if it's fasting. If not, just a regular, non-sugary breakfast. Nothing fancy. Confirm with the doc though, lack of sleep makes me forget things.

During my pregnancy, I found that eating light, wholesome meals generally kept my body balanced. Before such tests, it's crucial to follow medical advice. A simple, balanced breakfast if allowed, like some whole-wheat toast and a boiled egg, usually works best. And stay calm, stress can also affect blood sugar.

Beta, for these tests, it is always best to follow the doctor's exact instructions. Some tests need you to fast, some don't. My bahu was told to eat a normal, light breakfast. Just avoid anything too sweet. Don't try any home remedies before the test, it might affect the results.

Haha, for my wife's test, the doctor said 'just eat like you normally would, but don't down a whole gulab jamun platter before coming.' So, basically, common sense. No sugar rush needed right before they check your sugar rush potential! 😉

It depends on the type of test. For the initial screening (1-hour), they usually say eat normally, just avoid obvious sweets. For the diagnostic (3-hour), it's typically fasting overnight. Your gynaecologist should give you clear instructions, follow those strictly.
