What is the treatment for dengue fever?

My son has been feeling feverish and achy for a couple of days. The doctor suspects dengue fever, and we're waiting for test results. Could someone explain what the usual treatment protocol is for dengue fever?

Please do not ignore the fever. I once delayed getting a blood test done and my platelets dropped to a dangerous level, which was a nightmare. Go to a clinic, get tested, and let the doctor manage your hydration and treatment.

Dengue can make you feel extremely weak, but don't worry, the body recovers fully with rest. In my experience, simple home care with liquid diet, coconut water, and following the doctor's fever medicine is more than enough for a safe recovery.

Hey, don't stress too much, dengue is very common and passes off in a week. Just lie down, binge some shows, and keep sipping coconut water and ORS. Your body just needs rest to fight it off.

I had dengue last monsoon. The main cure is just drinking water, ORS, and coconut water constantly to keep your hydration up. Take paracetamol for the fever only as prescribed, and do not panic if your platelets drop slightly, just keep monitoring them.

I panicked like crazy when my platelet count started dropping last year. But my doctor assured me it's normal in dengue, and with proper rest and hydration, the levels shot back up on their own in a few days. You will be absolutely fine.

My doctor explained that since dengue is a virus, there is no specific antiviral treatment. The standard medical protocol is managing symptoms with paracetamol, strict bed rest, and consuming plenty of oral rehydration fluids. Avoid pain relievers like ibuprofen as they can increase bleeding risks.

For dengue, we focus entirely on supportive care. Drink plenty of water and ORS, take paracetamol for pain and fever, and strictly avoid NSAIDs like aspirin. Keep a close watch for warning signs like severe abdominal pain or bleeding, and get hospitalized if they occur.

If you suspect dengue, get a basic CBC test done from a local lab which costs around 250 rupees. Managing it at home with paracetamol and plenty of boiled water is very affordable, just keep a budget aside in case you need a couple of repeat platelet tests.
