What is pica in pregnancy?

My sister is pregnant, and she's suddenly craving strange things like chalk and dirt, which has us all a bit worried. Our doctor mentioned it might be 'pica in pregnancy'. What is this condition exactly?

Oh, Pica! 🧐 It's when pregnant women suddenly crave and eat non-food items like clay, ice, or even laundry starch! It sounds super strange, right? 🤪 But it's actually often linked to nutrient deficiencies, especially iron. So if you're experiencing this, please tell your doctor so they can check your levels! 💖

Pica in pregnancy, yaar, that's actually when pregnant women crave and eat non-food items, like dirt, chalk, or even ice. Sounds weird, na? But it's a real thing, sometimes due to nutrient deficiencies. My friend's wife craved ice like crazy when she was pregnant. Doctors say it's important to tell them so they can check for any deficiencies.

I've heard about Pica during pregnancy, where women crave non-food items. I personally didn't experience it, but a cousin of mine craved eating uncooked rice every day when she was pregnant. Her doctor checked her iron levels and gave her supplements, and the craving eventually stopped. So, it's definitely something to discuss with your healthcare provider right away.

Pica? Toh beta, doctor ko dikha lena chahiye, yeh sab normal nahi hota.

Pica in pregnancy is when pregnant women crave and eat non-nutritive substances like clay, ice, or even dirt. It's often associated with iron deficiency or other nutritional imbalances. Given that thyroid issues can also affect nutrient absorption, it's particularly important for pregnant women experiencing pica to get regular blood tests and consult their doctor. They can identify the underlying cause and recommend safe interventions.
