What is mucous plug in pregnancy?

I'm in my last trimester and my friend, who recently delivered, told me about something called a 'mucous plug'. She said it's important to know about it as delivery gets closer. What exactly is a mucous plug in pregnancy?

Our bodies are miracles, beta. The mucous plug is nature's way of protecting the baby. When it comes out, it's a sign that the body is preparing. Stay positive and trust the process. Seek your doctor's guidance, and have faith.

The mucous plug is a protective barrier, almost like a natural seal in the cervix. Its release is a sign the body is preparing for birth, a gentle unfolding. Like in yoga, we prepare the body and mind. It's a natural process, but always keep your doctor informed.

Beti, don't worry about the mucous plug. It's just a normal part of your body preparing for the baby to arrive. It protected the baby inside. When it comes out, it's a sign that things are moving along, but it doesn't mean the baby will come immediately. Just stay calm and tell your doctor.

Oh, mucous plug, yaar. It's actually a thick piece of mucus that blocks the cervix during pregnancy to prevent infection. When it comes out, it usually means labor is getting closer, but it can still be days or weeks away. My friend had it come out and then waited another week!
