What is intrauterine growth restriction in pregnancy?

I'm pregnant with my first child, and during my last check-up, the doctor mentioned 'intrauterine growth restriction'. It sounds worrying. Can someone explain what this means for my baby and me?

It means the baby is not growing at the expected rate inside the womb. I once ignored a slight decrease in my baby's movement thinking it was normal, and it led to complications. Please don't delay, go for your scans and consult your doctor immediately if they suspect this.

It just means the baby is taking a bit of extra time to grow inside! 👶 Doctors monitor this closely with ultrasound scans to keep everything safe. Keep eating healthy, stay positive, and trust your medical team! ✨

Is this the same as having a low birth weight baby? I am recently pregnant and learning about these things, and it sounds a bit worrying. Do doctors suggest special medicines or rests for this condition?

It is basically when the baby is smaller than normal because of some growth issues in the womb. At Fortis, my doctor explained they monitor this closely through Doppler scans. Please ask your gynecologist clearly about the blood flow and next steps instead of worrying.

My doctor explained that IUGR happens when the placenta is not delivering enough nutrients to the baby. They classify it as symmetrical or asymmetrical based on the ultrasound measurements. It requires regular monitoring of amniotic fluid levels and fetal Doppler, so stay in close touch with your doctor.

It means the baby's growth is restricted in the uterus. While diet alone might not solve placental issues, focusing on protein-rich vegetarian foods like dal, milk, almonds, and paneer is highly recommended. Always verify with your doctor before starting any heavy protein supplements.

I can totally understand how terrifying it feels to hear terms like this during pregnancy. It just means the baby's growth is a bit slower than normal, but please know that many moms deliver healthy babies after proper monitoring. Cry it out if you need to, but then focus on your doctor's plan.

Oh, it means the little one is not gaining weight as they should. Sometimes they ask you to eat high protein foods like eggs, paneer, and milk to help. Although pregnancy cravings make you want street food, keeping a check on nutritious meals is super important for the baby's growth!
