What is icp in pregnancy?

My sister is pregnant and her doctor mentioned 'ICP' in passing during her checkup. She's a bit confused and worried about what that means for her pregnancy. Can someone shed some light on it?

Hey, please don't panic. ICP stands for Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy, which is a liver condition that causes severe itching, especially on your palms and soles of feet. It is manageable with the right medical care, so please get in touch with your gynecologist as soon as possible to get your bile acid levels checked.

In our times, we would apply a little sandalwood paste or wet cotton cloths to soothe any itching skin during pregnancy. But if the itching is very severe and under your feet, it could be this liver issue. Please listen to your elders and go to the clinic today itself to make sure the baby is healthy.

I tried everything from oatmeal baths to ice packs, but honestly, nothing cures the actual internal issue of ICP except proper medical treatment. The home remedies only help soothe the skin for five minutes. Do yourself a favor and get your liver tests done today so you can sleep peacefully.

While keeping your skin moisturized with cold coconut oil or taking cool baths can give mild relief from the intense itching, you absolutely must see your doctor immediately. ICP needs proper medical monitoring and medication, so don't try to manage this purely at home.

I literally just delivered my baby boy last month after dealing with ICP. The itching on my hands and feet was crazy, especially at night. My doctor put me on medication immediately and monitored the baby closely until delivery. Please call your doc and get your LFT and bile acids checked right away, it is very important.

I can completely understand how terrified you must be feeling right now with all the itching and worry. I was in your shoes during my third trimester and was crying from anxiety. Just take a deep breath and contact your doctor; once they start the right treatment, you will feel much safer.

Please do not search for home remedies on Google for this. ICP is a proper medical condition affecting liver bile flow and can be risky for the baby if left ignored. Go straight to your hospital and get a proper blood test done instead of trying random tips.
