What is hematoma in pregnancy?

I just found out I'm pregnant, and my first ultrasound showed something called a 'hematoma'. My doctor wasn't too worried but advised rest. I'm a bit anxious though. What is a hematoma in pregnancy, and how serious is it usually?

I just heard this term in my first scan report and got really scared. Is a hematoma like a blood clot behind the baby, and does it mean I have to be on complete bed rest for the whole pregnancy?

If you have a hematoma, please pause all heavy workouts, lifting, and strenuous exercise immediately. Focus on eating a clean, balanced diet and let your body heal that blood clot naturally. Always consult your doctor before resuming any light walking.

A hematoma, specifically a subchorionic hematoma, is an accumulation of blood between the uterine wall and the chorionic membrane. While many of them resolve on their own without any harm, your doctor is the only one who can assess the size and guide you on the next steps.

I totally get it, seeing even a drop of blood during pregnancy can make your heart sink. I had a small subchorionic hematoma in my eighth week and was terrified, but it vanished by week twelve. Sending you lots of strength, just rest well.

Listen to me, don't panic when you see bleeding or read 'hematoma' on your scan. It is actually quite common in early pregnancy and most of the time it just dissolves or passes out safely. Just take your prescribed progesterone medicines, rest up, and let your body do its job.
