What is considered a dangerously low ferritin level in pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester of pregnancy and just got my blood test results. My doctor said my ferritin levels are low, but I'm not sure how low is too low. What is considered a 'dangerously low' ferritin level during pregnancy?

A ferritin level below 12 or 15 ng/mL is considered very low and indicates iron deficiency. While eating beetroot, spinach, and pomegranate helps, during pregnancy you must consult your doctor. They might need to prescribe iron supplements or even an IV iron drip.

Low iron reserves, especially ferritin below 15 ng/mL, can cause extreme fatigue and breathing issues during pregnancy. Gentle pranayama can help with oxygenation, but you must follow your doctor's medical advice to safely bring those levels up.

My report just came back showing my ferritin level is 11, and I am so worried. The lab range says it is very low. Did anyone else have levels this low during their second trimester? What did your doctor recommend to raise it quickly?

My wife's ferritin dropped to 10 during her pregnancy, which the doctor said was dangerously low and needed immediate attention. Along with monitoring her blood pressure, we had to do regular blood tests to track her iron levels. Make sure to get tested regularly.

Yes, ferritin levels below 12 to 15 are quite low for pregnant women. Please show the reports to your doctor as they may recommend iron injections for a quick boost.

Ferritin levels below 15 ng/mL are dangerously low, especially during pregnancy when your blood volume increases. If you also have gestational diabetes, don't try sweet iron syrups. Rely strictly on the tablets or treatments your gynaecologist prescribes.

If your ferritin is below 15, your body's iron store is basically empty! Don't panic, you won't turn into rust. Just show the reports to your doc and they'll probably put you on some iron tablets that might make your poop look like coal, but it works.
