What is anatomy scan during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant with my first baby and my doctor mentioned an 'anatomy scan' coming up. I'm a little nervous and want to know more. What exactly is an anatomy scan during pregnancy?

This is SO important! Don't skip it, ever. It's basically a very detailed ultrasound done around 18-22 weeks to check the baby's development from head to toe. My wife had it, and they check all the organs, limbs, everything. It can catch potential issues early. I once ignored a symptom and regretted it, so please don't take chances with this.

Oh, so this is that big ultrasound where they check everything about the baby? I've heard my friends talk about it. They said it takes quite a while and the sonographer points out all the body parts. It must be amazing to see your baby in such detail.

Is this the scan where they check for everything serious, like all the baby's organs? I'm due for mine soon and feeling a little nervous. Do they tell you the gender during this scan if you ask?

Beta, the anatomy scan is a blessing for expectant mothers today. Back in our time, we didn't have such detailed scans. It gives you such peace of mind to know the baby is developing well. It's a comprehensive check of all the organs. Just relax and enjoy seeing your little one.

Haha, it's like your baby's first ever health report card, but with pictures! They check if all the parts are where they should be and working fine. My wife called it the 'baby spa day' because it takes so long and the baby just chills in there while getting checked. Super important scan though!
