What is a high risk pregnancy?

I'm pregnant with my first child, and my doctor mentioned that my pregnancy might be considered 'high risk.' What does that actually mean? I'm a bit anxious.

A high-risk pregnancy simply means there are factors like gestational diabetes, hypertension, twin pregnancy, or maternal age that need extra monitoring. It is very common now. Just find a top-tier gynecologist and follow their guidelines strictly.

I am newly married and just learning about these things. Does having high BP or being over 35 automatically mean it is a high risk pregnancy? How do doctors usually manage it?

My obstetrician explained that a pregnancy is classified as high-risk if there are pre-existing conditions like thyroid issues, diabetes, high blood pressure, or if complications arise during gestation. It requires specialized care, but most cases result in healthy babies with proper monitoring.

Agreed, it is nothing to panic about but requires close medical supervision. Make sure to choose a hospital with a good NICU facility just to be safe.

My pregnancy was high-risk because I had severe preeclampsia. It just means you need more frequent ultrasounds and checkups than a normal pregnancy. Take your medicines on time, rest well, and trust your doctor.
