What is a good treatment for dandruff?

I've been dealing with really bad dandruff for a while now, it's embarrassing and itchy. I've tried a few anti-dandruff shampoos from the market, but nothing seems to really work long-term. What's a good treatment for dandruff that actually gets rid of it?

My grandmother always suggests applying sour curd or lemon juice to the scalp before washing. While those traditional remedies can cool the head, a dermatologist's advice is what ultimately cured my oily dandruff. A medicated anti-fungal lotion is far more effective.

I am no expert, but my severe dandruff only stopped when I started using a ketoconazole shampoo twice a week. I tried many herbal oils before that, but they only made my scalp more greasy and itchy. That is just what worked for my hair.

I have been shedding white flakes constantly on my shoulders, and it is getting so embarrassing at work. Has anyone else felt their scalp burning along with the itchiness? I am worried it might be something worse than just normal dandruff.

Many people make the mistake of applying heavy coconut oil when they have dandruff, but that actually feeds the yeast. Use a mild anti-dandruff shampoo containing zinc pyrithione or tea tree oil, and wash your hair regularly. Keep your combs clean and don't share them.

You basically need to target the yeast on your scalp. Pick up any shampoo containing ketoconazole or coal tar from the local chemist, leave it on your scalp for five full minutes before rinsing, and use it twice a week. If it still persists after a month, go see a skin doc.
