What is a dangerous fever for a child?

My 3-year-old son has a fever right now and I'm very anxious. At what temperature does a fever become really dangerous for a small child? Should I be rushing him to the hospital?

Hey, don't stress too much, kids get fevers quite often as their immunity builds up. But honestly, if the temperature crosses 102 degrees Fahrenheit or if your little one is under 3 months and has any fever at all, you should call your pediatrician immediately. Just keep an eye on how active they are.

Any fever above 102 degrees or a fever in an infant below three months is definitely dangerous. Please consult your pediatrician immediately instead of waiting.

When my nephew had a high fever of 103, he stopped eating his favorite sweet curd and just wanted to sleep all day, which really worried us. A fever is dangerous when the kid stops taking fluids or showing interest in food entirely. If that happens, skip the home remedies and head straight to the clinic.

For children, any fever that touches 102 degrees or lasts more than 48 hours is a warning sign. If your child is lethargic, has a stiff neck, or shows any breathing difficulty, it is extremely critical. Please get it checked by a qualified pediatrician immediately for safety.

When a child's forehead feels very hot and the thermometer shows more than 101, you must be careful. You can gently wipe their forehead with a damp cloth of normal water, but never use cold water or ice. If the child is crying constantly or refusing milk, take them to the doctor without any delay.

My son had a febrile seizure once when his fever suddenly spiked to 103, and it was the scariest moment of my life. I learned that any fever above 101.5 in young kids needs to be monitored every hour. Keep a digital thermometer handy, give the exact dosage of medicine your doctor prescribed, and if the child becomes unresponsive, run to the hospital emergency.
