What helps constipation during pregnancy?

I'm in my first trimester, and I've been really constipated lately, which is making me quite uncomfortable. My gynaecologist mentioned fibre, but I wanted to know what else helps constipation during pregnancy that is safe.

Honestly, even though I'm not pregnant, I used to have constipation sometimes. What helped me was just drinking a LOT of water throughout the day and eating fruits like papaya. My mom also made me eat prunes sometimes. Maybe these can help?

Listen, constipation during pregnancy is very common, don't worry. The simplest things help: more water, more fiber in your diet (fruits, veggies, whole grains), and light walking if your doctor permits. Avoid anything harsh without asking your gynaecologist.

Oh, the joys of pregnancy, adding constipation to the list! 😂 Your body's doing a marathon, so it's bound to have some hiccups. Just imagine it's trying to make space for the little one! Drink water like it's going out of fashion, and eat fiber like it's a treasure hunt. And always, always ask your doc!

For practical relief, try starting your day with a glass of warm water, perhaps with a little lemon. Include plenty of salads, whole grains like oats, and fruits like banana or fig in your diet. And a short, gentle walk after meals can also aid digestion. Keep it simple and consistent.

My OB-GYN explained that constipation in pregnancy is often due to hormonal changes slowing digestion and the growing uterus pressing on the intestines. She recommended increasing dietary fiber gradually, consuming at least 8-10 glasses of water daily, and mild physical activity like walking. For severe cases, she sometimes suggested specific fiber supplements or stool softeners that are safe for pregnancy, emphasizing to avoid laxatives without medical advice.

During pregnancy, it's vital to be gentle with your body. Simple, guided pranayama and very light, safe stretches approved by your doctor can help with digestion. Focus on warm, nourishing foods and sips of warm water throughout the day. Listen to your body and rest well.
