What happens if you stop breathing in your sleep?

My husband snores very loudly, and sometimes it sounds like he stops breathing for a few seconds. It really scares me. What happens to a person if they stop breathing in their sleep?

Honestly, you wake up gasping for air like a fish out of water, and then you can't sleep all night. My wife says I snore like a diesel engine and suddenly stop, which scares the life out of her. I am tired all day now.

This is a serious medical issue, usually sleep apnea. First, try reducing weight if you are overweight and sleep on your side instead of your back. But honestly, the best solution is to get a sleep study done and use a CPAP machine if doctor says so.

My father used to stop breathing for a few seconds while sleeping and it used to worry us so much. We took him to a sleep specialist and got it sorted. Please don't ignore it, it can affect your BP and energy levels in the long run.

I realized this happens to me more when I have a heavy butter chicken dinner late at night and go straight to bed. When the stomach is too full, it pushes up and makes breathing hard. Try eating light dinners and see if it helps.

Haan na, this is actually quite scary. It is called sleep apnea, and it puts so much pressure on the heart. My uncle had this and he was always tired, so please don't neglect it, ho na.

Hey! That sounds like sleep apnea, which is very common but needs doctor's attention. Getting a sleep test done will help you sleep like a baby again. Take care and stay positive!
