What happens if you smoke during pregnancy?

My neighbour, who is pregnant, still smokes occasionally, saying it's 'just a little bit.' I'm worried for her and the baby. What can actually happen if someone smokes during pregnancy?

Arey beta, this is a very sacred time for you and the little one. Smoking is very toxic and cuts off the clean air your baby needs to grow inside. Eat fresh fruits, drink coconut water, and completely stay away from such bad habits for the sake of your child.

Please stop immediately. I had severe placental complications during my first pregnancy because of secondhand smoke exposure, and it was terrifying. You need to consult your gynecologist honestly and get a full checkup done right away for the baby's safety.

It directly affects the baby's birth weight and lung development, which will cost you a lot of hospital rounds later. If quitting cold turkey is hard, join a support group or ask your doctor for safe nicotine alternatives meant for pregnant women.

Haan, bilkul mat karna yeh galti! Pregnancy me smoke karne se baby ko oxygen nahi milti thik se. Doctor se baat karo aur yeh habit abhi isi waqt chhod do, baad me pachtana padega na.

Do not read online forums that say 'one or two cigarettes are okay.' That is completely false and dangerous. Go talk to a proper medical specialist who can give you scientific facts and help you quit safely.

I am newly pregnant and some of my friends say even passive smoking is very harmful. Is that true? I feel very nervous because my family members smoke in the living room sometimes.
