What happens if you sleep on your stomach?
I generally sleep on my stomach, it's just more comfortable for me. But my mother-in-law keeps telling me it's bad for my back and digestion. Is there any truth to this or is it just an old wives' tale?

I used to sleep on my stomach when I was younger and it never did any major damage. However, as you get older, it can strain your neck and lower back because your spine isn't in a neutral position. It is better to slowly train yourself to sleep on your side.
People online make it sound like sleeping on your stomach will ruin your life, which is not true. It is just a sleeping position that might cause some stiffness in your neck because you have to turn your head to one side. If you have chronic neck pain, go see a doctor instead of trying weird neck pillows.
Don't stress too much about it, sleeping on your stomach is not dangerous! The worst that can happen is you might wake up with some sheet marks on your face and a slightly stiff neck. If you are comfortable and sleeping well, it is mostly fine.

I always overthink my sleeping posture and worry if I am hurting my spine by sleeping flat on my stomach. It is a bit comforting to know that many people do it without major issues. Maybe try placing a very thin pillow under your forehead to keep your neck straighter.
I completely understand why you are asking this; I used to worry that sleeping on my stomach would crush my internal organs or cause heart issues! Honestly, our bodies are much tougher than we think. It just strains your back a bit, so try using a pillow under your hips to reduce the arch.
