What happens if you have cirrhosis of the liver?

My neighbour's husband has been sick for a long time, and now they say he has 'cirrhosis of the liver'. It sounds very bad. What does that mean for him, and what will happen to his health eventually?

Cirrhosis means the liver has permanent scarring, which can affect its functioning. While the scarring itself can't be reversed, we can stop it from getting worse by managing the cause, like stopping alcohol completely and taking prescribed medications.

My family gastroenterologist explained that advanced cirrhosis can lead to portal hypertension and hepatic encephalopathy, which affects brain function. He emphasized that early diagnosis and treating the underlying infection or fatty liver is crucial to manage it.

My father was just diagnosed with early cirrhosis and we are all so worried. Has anyone else managed to keep it stable for years without needing a liver transplant?

Actually, cirrhosis is really serious, yaar. You can't just ignore it or try random home remedies, you need to consult a proper hepatologist at a good hospital immediately.

When my relative had liver cirrhosis, they experienced severe fluid retention in the stomach and yellowing of the skin. They had to follow a strict low-sodium diet and visit the hepatologist regularly for fluid drainage.

Haan yaar, cirrhosis toh kafi serious condition hai, na. Undergo regular liver scans and strictly follow whatever the specialist says to avoid further liver damage.
